Read this first

No Ministry of Minority Affairs scholarship is listed on the National Scholarship Portal for 2026-27

We checked the live scheme list at scholarships.gov.in on 2026-08-15. The Ministry of Minority Affairs does not appear in the portal's Central Sector Scheme list at all, and no scheme on the list has “Minority” in its name — not open, not closed, not even “not yet opened”, which is a status the portal does use for other schemes.

So the three central minority scholarships that circulate in community groups every year — Pre-Matric, Post-Matric and Merit-cum-Means — are not currently an available route. The routes that are open are state government schemes and central schemes a Jain student qualifies for on merit or on means, like anyone else.

We are not telling you these schemes have been abolished. We could not obtain a government statement to that effect, and saying so would be going further than the evidence allows. What we verified is that they are absent from the portal. Confirm at scholarships.gov.in and with your state minority or social welfare department before you rely on any of them.

Frozen schemes attract people who charge to “apply” on your behalf. Nobody needs to be paid to apply for you. A Common Service Centre charges a fixed ₹30 per candidate for the whole process — anyone asking more is overcharging.

Are you in school, in college, or on a professional course?

Three questions. They will not cover every case, but they will put you on the right page in under a minute.

    School (up to Class XII)

    Look at NMMSS first if you are in Class VIII at a government or government-aided school — note that private schools are excluded. Then your state scheme, then community trusts, several of which fund school fees.

    College or university

    PM-USP CSSS if you were above the 80th percentile in your Class XII board. Then your state scheme — Maharashtra funds up to ₹50,000 a year for technical and professional courses. Then community trusts, most of which fund at this level.

    Professional or technical course

    AICTE Pragati if you are a girl entering a technical degree, or AICTE Saksham if you have a disability of 40% or more — both pay ₹50,000 a year. Then your state scheme, then a Jain trust interest-free loan.

Then check what your state runs.

Maharashtra and Karnataka are the two states with genuinely state-funded minority scholarships. Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh mostly channel theirs through the national portal — which means the finding at the top of this page applies to them too.

Read the restriction line on every one before you spend time on it. Several are open only to a single sub-community, and one is restricted to members of a particular Sangh.

How often we re-check this

The presence or absence of minority schemes on the national portal is checked monthly — that single fact is what this whole section rests on. Open scheme dates are checked monthly from May to November. The whole section is re-verified twice a year, in May before the June opening, and again in September.
