The family directory
Jain Waves holds a directory of about fifty thousand Jain family records from Maharashtra. This page exists to tell you what it is, what will be done with it, and what will never be done with it — before you are asked to add yourself to it.
It is not on this website, and it will not be
You cannot search it here. There is no partial version, no preview and no lookup that returns a family if you already know the name. It is an app feature behind a login, and this page is scope-setting, not a teaser.
Where it came from
It began as a printed directory of the Jain families of Nashik district, compiled in 2008. That book was made the way such books have always been made: by people walking to households, asking, writing down and checking. It was later extended across Maharashtra. The records in it were given by families to their own community, for their own community’s use, and that is the only basis on which they will ever be used.
What it will do in the app
Find a family in your own area. See which sangh they belong to. Reach a household when a community needs to — a condolence, a wedding invitation, an emergency, a sangh notice. Update your own entry yourself, which no printed directory has ever allowed and which is the single biggest improvement over the book.
The rules it will be held to
- Behind a login. Never on the open web, never in a search engine, never in a public API.
- Never sold, never rented, never given to an advertiser, a matrimonial service or a political campaign.
- Your entry is yours. You can correct it, restrict what is visible, or have it removed entirely — and removal means removed, not hidden.
- No bulk export. A logged-in member can look up a family; nobody can download the community.
